
Women of Kupwara stitching the Indian National Flag near the Line of Control, praised by PM Modi on Mann Ki Baat, and training 500+ girls and women since 2020.
In June 2021, Jameela Begum of Babagund village in Kupwara started stitching Indian National Flags. Supported by the Indian Army and Jan Shikshan Sansthan, Kupwara, her group stitched over 8000 flags in 2021 alone. Over 500 girls and women have been trained since 2020 in flag-making, embroidery, and tailoring.
In November 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised their work on Mann Ki Baat. Jameela Begum also received various awards & recognition from the Indian Army in that region. In December 2022, she met PM Modi in person and was felicitated by Union Ministers.

Women trained in flag-making and stitching have started their own tailoring units.

The patriotism of these women came into notice of all when they stitched 1800 National Flags in year 2023 for the local Army Units in the area. Same was found mention in one of the speech of ‘Mann ki Baat’ of the Prime Minister

The flags stitched by these women are used by the Indian Army near the Line of Control.
